Michala Paludan: The Unposed (EoAT) – Book Event
We're excited to welcome Danish artist Michala Paludan to Safelight for an evening around her first monograph, The Unposed (EoAT).
The Unposed (EoAT), is a collection of 101 portraits of robot hands. In robotics they're called End-of-Arm Tools, the gadgets on the end of an industrial robot arm that grip, cut or lift. Michala tracked them down in research labs, at trade fairs and in robot company showrooms. She also found them in a temple in Kyoto, a train station in Tokyo, a museum in Seoul and a few sex shops in Copenhagen, Ringsted and Las Vegas.
She photographs the tools, not what they make.
Because they're built to copy or replace human hands, they end up showing you the people who used to do the work. It's funny, a little strange, and it stays with you. The book also includes essays by Ryan S. Jeffery, Lars Bang Larsen and Lakshmi Luthra on touch, labor and automation.

Michala (b. 1983) lives and works in Copenhagen and works across photography, video and installation.
Come by, flip through the book, meet Michala and grab a drink. No robot knowledge needed.
