A Night at Cielo: Safelight Berlin x Davide Soldarini Exhibition
A Night at Cielo: Photography, Gyoza, and Recycled Cameras
A few weeks ago we teamed up with Cielo for a one-night exhibition featuring the work of Italian photographer Davide Soldarini, and it turned into one of our favorite nights of the year.

The Exhibition
Davide is based in Berlin but grew up in Northern Italy, where an early love of landscapes and quiet spaces eventually led him into Berlin's analog photography community, including Safelight and Street Photography Berlin. For this show, we curated a selection of his work shot on film in Japan between 2016 and 2026, all built around the connection between Italy and Japan: two cultures where food, craftsmanship, and community are deeply tied together. It felt like the right pairing for a dinner.
The Food
To match the theme, Cielo put together a Japan-inspired menu for the night in collaboration with Suguru Fujiyama of Gyoza to Sake. Suguru, Ivano, and the kitchen team were locked in all night sending out fish crudo, beef tartare, octopus skewers, and Suguru's gyoza with nduja. Every plate that came out was a genuine highlight, and more than a little natural wine was involved along the way.

Free Cameras From ReFrame Berlin
We also brought along something from our side project, ReFrame Berlin. ReFrame takes cameras that come through our lab that would otherwise be scrapped, takes them apart, and rebuilds them loaded with fresh film. For this event, Cielo's graphic designer Attico36 put together a one-off design just for the night, and we gave the cameras out to friends and family so they could shoot the evening themselves.

Thank You
Huge thanks to everyone who made the night happen: Cielo for partnering with us and hosting, Davide for the incredible photography, Suguru and the Gyoza to Sake team for the food, and Attico36 for the camera design. If you're in Berlin, go book a table at Cielo. You'll thank us later.
